Description
Since 1966, IU Campus Bus Service has been providing bus service on the Bloomington campus. IU Bloomington's 1,940-acre campus is often considered one of the most beautiful campuses in the nation located in USA Today's #2 "Best College Town in America." IU Bloomington is home to close to 43,000 undergraduate and graduate students and over 19,000 faculty, staff, and part-time employees. Campus Bus provides transportation to over 3 million rides a year and operates a 6-route system with approximately 30 buses, 50 bus operators, 4 mechanics, and a management team. It has a long-standing partnership with the local transit system, further extending its reach and resources. Campus Bus is an essential campus service that supports the university's ability to function efficiently and helps to ensure a welcoming environment for its students, employees, and other guests. Campus Bus is a business unit within Auxiliary Business Services (ABS). ABS operates in a shared services model that supports finance, human resources, payroll, and the marketing needs of Campus Bus.Job Summary
- Safely operate a vehicle on an assigned route, transporting passengers to and from designated locations on campus and surrounding areas.
- Maintain excellent customer service relations with passengers, motorists, and pedestrians.
- Maintain, read, and understand route schedules.
- Operate 2-way radio communication equipment correctly and according to company policy.
- Inspect vehicles before each trip using correct procedures and according to company policy.
- Successfully complete driving skills evaluations.
- Follow all safety policies and procedures.
Qualifications
EDUCATION
Required
- High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED).
Required
- Ability to pass and maintain US Department of Transportation (DOT) medical certification.
- Valid drivers license with the ability to be insured by Indiana University. These are Safety Sensitive positions as defined by the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) and are therefore subject to all current and future FTA.
- Drug and Alcohol Testing Regulations upon date of hire.
- Commercial Driver's License (CDL) license class B with passenger and air brake endorsements.

- Ability to effectively communicate and exchange information.
- Ability to read a map. Knowledge of the service area.
- Ability to work in a safe and efficient manner.
- Ability to obtain thorough knowledge of transit operations, including DOT rules and regulations.
Working Conditions / Demands
This person in this position spends most of the time working in an enclosed environment. This role requires stationary positioning for long periods of time. It also requires a CDL-B or chauffer's level driver's license issued by the State of Indiana and the ability to be insured by Indiana University. Exposure to occasional adverse environmental conditions such as heat, cold, and inclement weather may occur. This role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential tasks with or without accommodation.
Ability to pass a pre-employment alcohol and drug test, and subject to continuing alcohol and drug testing as mandated by the Federal Transit Administration. Ability to pass criminal background check.

Work Hours
This position is capped at 29 hours per week.
Work hours are flexible. Part-Time drivers select their own hours from the available options, typically days and weekends, with occasional evening shifts open.
Ability to work a minimum of 2 shifts per week.
